review 1: Largely formula writing which incorporates a boring conspiracy plot, the pervasiveness of which would tax most reader's credulity. Be they good guys or bad, the characters in the book are walking cliches, by and large. We are informed that the main character, Detective Hauck, is 'worshiped' by his partner and I guess the reader is supposed to worship him too but many of his decisions and actions are just dumb like his penchant for making promises about outcomes not within his personal power to control and his eagerness to arrest bad guys on insufficient evidence. For me the book was a distraction at best and I made it all the way through only because I had nothing else to read at the time.
review 2: This is the first time I have read Andrew Gross standing on hi
... mores own. He has co-authored many books with James Patterson, and they were some of the best co-authors that Patterson has done. The main character in this book is Lt. Ty Hauck, and I unfortunately did not realize this was the second novel featuring this character, the first one being The Dark Tide. Although this novel stands alone, I would have preferred to read them in order, This was a very fast paced, compelling mystery with a few twists and turns. Exactly my cup of tea. I enjoyed it so much, that I returned to the book store and purchased a few more Andrew Gross novels. less
