review 1: Kitty is now keeping a Diary. She's living with her Aunt & Uncle in Cheapside while trying to bring out the best in her sister Mary. Having abandoned all desire to follow romance she has become the great stay & support of those around. She feels unworthy of love, she failed to love her fiancé and brought scandal then lied to him about starting again with him just before going to war. The survivors guilt has crushed her yet love is to find its way. Jane comes back to town and is distraught over some mystery. Mary starts mixing with somebody entirely inappropriate (the same fellow who brought scandal to Kitty's door) and somebody has to help sort it all out. A fun read.
review 2: Each of the diaries gets better and better. The writer's story flows better and I
... morethink the characters become more real and relatable. I think the diary where we see Kitty develop and mature and work through the horrors of Waterloo and redeem herself from her fluffy ways is believable. I really feel Kitty has matured. The story with Mary is a little out of the ordinary and not so believable but adds a comic relief and great plot twists. Overall, I enjoyed this diary of Kitty's very much. The author's afterword actually was revealing. Apparently Jane Austen told her brother about Kitty and Mary's fate -- that she envisioned Kitty marrying a clergyman and Mary marrying a clerk, and so that is the ultimate fate that the author of this diary ensures but that is NOT a spoiler. I think it is interesting with Lord Henry's return and the new characters of Mr. Dalton and Will. And I love the twists and turns associated with getting Jane's necklace back from the "wicked" Mrs. Hurst. Really a fun read. less

very warm and fuzzy - almost too repetitive of the last two books, yet still very enjoyable.

I thought Mary's storyline was very out of character, but I enjoyed the book.
