Christmas Stories
review 1: I liked this book but it will not put you in the holiday spirit. Most of the books in this series involve Charlotte Pitt who aids her policeman husband insolving crimes. In this story Charlotte is down for the count with bronchitis and can not respond to the request she receives soon before Christmas that she attend an aunt who is in Ireland and expected to die. Charlotte's sister Emily goes in her place and soon figures out that the need is not to insure that an ill woman is not alone to meet her death near Christmas, but to solve a mystery that has been haunting the small Irish town for many years and causing her aunt great anguish. Someone in the town is responsible for the death of a sailor, rescued from the sea some years before and later murdered, but who is the culp... morerit? Suspicion is poisoning the town and in discovering the truth Emily is able to give her dying aunt the last gift of her life, saving the town she loves.
review 2: Part of a historical mystery romance series set in Victorian England that I enjoy, this is a short gothic romance starring Emily Radley, instead of her brother-in-law Inspector Thomas Pitt and his wife (her sister) Charlotte. Emily must leave her family in London at Christmas time to go to Connemara, a tiny village on the west coast of Ireland, to be with her estranged Aunt Susannah, who is dying. Emily finds a community gripped in fear and suspicion resulting from an unsolved murder in the past. When the lone survivor of a shipwreck washes ashore on the beach near Connemara, Emily thinks he may be the key to solving the mystery and bringing peace to the residents of the town and especially to her dying aunt. less
