review 1: Possibly the worst book I have ever read. To many exclamations, forced and over the top. The characters are more impressed and surprised by the magical world than the reader ever is. Characters come to rash conclusions with no hard evidence and the reader is simply supposed to swallow the plot (or lack thereof). Too many magical creatures and not enough story. The nap inside the magic placenta was the final straw.
review 2: I found this book very annoying in a lot of ways. The writing was clumsy and as much as I wanted to like Oksa, I mainly found her irritating. I did like that it was often quite dark in a way kids' books usually aren't, and it had enough moments where I enjoyed it that I nudged the rating up from a 2 to a 3. The book isn't very conclus
... moreive in and of itself; it's very much meant to be read as part of the series. By the end I was quite interested in the story and wanted to see what happened, but I didn't enjoy it enough to seek out the next book. less
