review 1: This is book #2 in the Inspector Hector Salgado series by Antonio Hill. You don't need to have read the first book (The Summer of Dead Toys) to understand this book, though it might be useful. Hector Salgado is a Spanish detective who in this book is on the case of several suspicious suicides of employees of a cosmetics company following a company retreat. There are a lot of characters in this book, and for this reason, I found it somewhat difficult and confusing to read. This is not to say that this book is bad, because it isn't. I am just a person who likes minimal characters to keep track of. This book is well written and kept my attention, particularly in the second half of the book when things finally started to come together. I think this book is a worthwhile ... moreread! I received this book from "Blogging for Books" for this honest review.
review 2: I haven't read a thriller in about three years and this one was a solid reminder of why I should sprinkle them into my "must reads." Each chapter kept me hooked but (A LOOSE SPOILER AHEAD!) ... the crime ultimately committed by the cosmetics team felt a bit anticlimactic. I felt like he sucked you in then just dribbled the big ending. That said, just when you think you know what you're getting and the book is pages from wrapping up, Hill throws you another twist courtesy of the second plot line (his ex-wife). A thrilling page-turner and would definitely recommend ... Just purchased Hill's second novel, The Summer of Dead Toys. less
