review 1: I won "The Summer of Dead Toys" in the Goodreads giveways. Although it's not my usual genre I do enjoy a suspense filled murder mystery and this book was all that and more. Set in Barcelona Spain Inspector Héctor Salgado and Agent Leire Castro investigate the death of a nineteen year old, Marc Castells Viday,who falls from an attic window in his family's house. At first glance the death seems accidental; a boy sitting on a window ledge smoking falls. But slowly facts are uncovered that implicate members of rich and influential families as well as a link to the drowning of a young girl years before. Into the mix add the brutal death of a young girl Kira and Salgado's beating of the man he holds responsible - Dr. Omar; a man who vows vengeance on Inspector Salgado and his f... moreamily. In this story the characters all have dark secrets that make them suspects in the crime. Even the detectives must face their own demons; Héctor, the betrayal of his wife with another woman, and Leire, an unwanted pregnancy with a man she hardly knows. It's a murder mystery that grows in suspense and intrigue with every twist and turn of the story. Although I'm not drawn to books with explicit sexuality and swearing, I did find the story riveting.
review 2: (3'5) Teniendo en cuenta que ya la novela negra la tiendo a puntuar menos, me ha gustado más de lo que esperaba pero tiendo a castigar un poco cosas que aunque sepamos que es novela y negra me gustaría que fueran más realistas. Y no haya tanta facilidad para atar cabos en ciertas situaciones en las que no sería tan fácil, o tanta facilidad para escabullirse y salirse con la suya en cosas que en la realidad serían más complicadas. Gratamente no me esperaba ese giro final (muy al final), cosa de agradecer cuando eres perro viejo. Así que si quieres pasar un rato bueno con intrigas en una ciudad como Barcelona, este es uno de los casos que deberías leer.
