review 1: It was extremely hard to rate this novel but I went with a four. Although I hated the ending, the characters stayed with me and their role played a pivotal part. I thought that Carter had the most redeeming qualities, not to mention how he let his love for Miamor take over him. Miamor background was interesting, I got to see what she was like growing up. It answered a lot of my questions, her past was a reflection of the present. On the other hand, the ending really almost gave this book an average rating but the meaty story saved it. Looking forward to reading the final book of the trilogy.
review 2: Awesome story with twists and turns... My only gripe? Clearly this author has no concept of Carribean culture as the "dialect" she uses to depict them especially
... more the Haitian characters are way off. Last I checked, No self-respecting Haitian has EVER muttered the word 'bloodclot' or spoke to 'he' or 'she'.The Jamaican patois used for Haitian dialect stopped the story in its tracks each time and was quite annoying. Are we to believe that West Indians even write letters this way? Stick to you what you know. A great story and leave the translation alone. We get it.5 stars - minus one for bad research and spelling errors. Shame on the editor. less
