review 1: The lesbian aspect of this novel was 4 stars, but the agent part was lower, hence the 3 rating. It's rare to read a such a great lesbian sex scene written by a male. I felt the pain of the main characters as they were scared and falling for one another. All of the positive being stated, the ending felt quick. I kept waiting for more. Also, I was incredibly annoyed that the main character seemed to always need a partner. How can I consider her strong when she can't seem to stand on her own two feet?
review 2: I've read a couple of Barry Eisler's novels now, and always enjoy his unique combination of strong, lyrical writing, fast moving plot, and deadly protagonists. London Twist is my favorite thus far. For one thing, reading a kickass female operative like De
... morelilah is always a pleasure :-). The premise of the story is intriguing as well, and Eisler pulls no punches in painting the ethical and moral grays that come up in the fight against terrorism. In this way, it reminded me one of my old favorite TV shows La Femme Nikita (the old USA series, with Peta Wilson). The love story in London Twist, which could have gone so horribly wrong in the wrong hands, was exceedingly well done -- nuanced, believable and poignant. Overall, a fantastic read, and perhaps a special draw for female readers, since this is his first work with a woman protagonist. less
