review 1: A wonderfully nihilistic look at being a teenage boy in Britain, that is presumed to be semi-autobiographical. It was written when the author was a teenager himself and Brooks is doing a lot to make lad-lit popular again. Grow Up is littered with disappointing sex, perplexing girls and average drug-taking experiences. That may sound trite, but it's a smart read. Am yet to read his next book, Lolito, that comes recommended by Nick Cave!
review 2: Ben Brooks tried way too hard to be Chuck Palahniuk. Shock factor for shock factor's sake so isn't my thing. That mixed with the fact that this book was probably the most misogynistic thing I've ever read, makes for the low rating. It WAS really funny at times, I'll admit. It had me laughing out loud at the bus. The fun
... moreny moments weren't enough to save it for me though, and in the end I sped read through it just to finish it.That being said, I think Ben Brooks will be a very good writer in 5-10 years time. less

An fantastically well written book, hard to believe someone so young can write in this way.
