review 1: This seems like a fairly typical Brad Thor book. The concept of a female-only Delta Force team seems to serve as a excuse to heighten the level of sexual banter and innuendo, not at the expense of action but at the expense of developing any of the antagonist characters. The "villains" are almost cartoonish, with a real lack of established motivation behind their plotting. In "Lions of Lucerne", at least the back door politics of burning a damaging bill was okay as motivation. In this book the motivation for the planned terrorism is hard to surmise.Parts that I enjoyed was the stretching of current scientific fact to potential weaponization, the links to Nazi science and their search for far-beyond-cutting-edge technology, and the teamwork and banter in the team. Inserting ... moreScot Harvath, Thor's usual protagonist, into the mix didn't add to the plot development and seemed completely gratuitous in trying to link this book into the same universe as Thor's earlier books. Overall a fun read, but I've enjoyed other Brad Thor books more.
review 2: This is basically a stand alone book and not part of the Scot Harvath series. The Athena Project team were introduced in the book Foreign Influence and the author decided that they merited a book of their own. I have to say that I wish that he hadn't bothered. It all sounded a bit too much like a bad Charlie's Angels plot and it didn't really feel right. Even injecting characters from the Scot Harvath series couldn't save this book. I think that the only reason that I finished this book was through being stubborn. less

More about a team of women who does work like Scot. He makes brief appearance. B
