review 1: #8 in the Scot Harvath series. Poor Scot can't seem to keep a job. First with the Secret Service and then with Homeland Security, he is now an unemployed secret agent specializing in anti-terrorism. Anything in this series is a guaranteed, page-turner thriller.Scot Harvath's job has been eliminated by new President Alden. The daughter of a major fund-raiser, Stephanie Gallo, has been abducted in Afghanistan and her release is being offered in exchange for that of a major al-Qaeda terrorist, Mustafa Khan. The Afghan government refuses to trade and Gallo blackmails Alden into sending Scot to kidnap Khan and make the exchange.
review 2: I finished this on a plane heading to a work assignment in the Southwest. Just the book for reading on a plane. A good old fashi... moreoned pot boiler that is filled with action and a touch of mystery. The book is really two stories intertwined. Interestingly, the hero of this story are the Afghani people. The book contrasts the Afghani people’s sense of ethics with the ethics of politicians in Washington. No need for a spoiler here, the answer is obvious. Great book for summer, or long flight reading. less
