review 1: As with everything by Brandon Sanderson, reading this book is a delight. Why only three stars, some may ask. Well, to be perfectly honest it may deserve one more, but when I read Brandon's books my expectation is through the roof and though this book was fun, and quite nearly as good as the first in its series, it didn't blow my mind. That's all that is keeping it from a higher rating.This is hilarious, clever, meta, intelligent, and adventurous YA fantasy. I recommend it to all children I know who can read at its level or higher, as well as to those who appreciate a good story no matter how crazy it is. The entire series should be enjoyed by many.
review 2: The books in this series get better and better. We are listening to them in the car as a family and ... morewe ALL love them! Our family now has a collection of inside jokes that we share. Each of us has discovered our Smedry talent. (Gareth's is that he always puts his clothing on backwards) We are very excited to start the next book but we are also sad that it is the last in the series. Brandon Sanderson needs to write us some more!! We can't get enough of Alcatraz Smedry and his super fantastic adventures. Highly Recommended. less
