review 1: Looking back, I cannot believe I finished this book. The plot. I've read it a million times, and yet it was all over the place. Lots of pointless things happen. I love it when a book doesn't fit into one genre, but this one felt like it wanted to be everything, but ended up as nothing. Somehow, it was a crowded plot, but it also went nowhere. The pacing was very slow. The amount of walks that happened in the middle of the book . . .The characters were all stereotypes. Aoife started promising but fell into a "nothing" character category. I can't describe her personality because it constantly changed, but not in a good way. Cal. The whole time you want to murder him. The author did her job a little too well there. The Cal twist in the end was fantastic, but afterwards it was ... morelike his character completely changed. Dean was supposed to be the typical mysterious, attractive, suave, savvy, witty guy that likes Aoife for her personality. Aww.Picking up this book, I was led to believe it was a story with steampunk and madness. I was so excited by the encounter with the nightjar. But instead, the book takes place in a mansion, and nothing happens but fairies. Nothing in the story is explained. A lot of Lovelace is left to the imagination. In a book like this, the setting should be powerful, but I felt nothing.I'm extremely proud of myself for finishing this book. I wouldn't recommend The Iron Thorn to anyone EXCEPT for a young reader. I feel like had I read this when I was nine or ten, I would have enjoyed it more. It's very simplistic. So I would recommend it to a young, new reader as an introduction, but absolutely no one else.

I wanted to read steampunk but this my first time reading about it didn't do it for me.

Really fun Steampunk adventure. Kind of reminded me of Alice: Madness Returns.
