review 1: (Warning: No NOT read the sequel to this book before reading the reviews!!!) This review ONLY applies to this book...not its' sequel.)This book is now in my top 5 favorite stories list of all time. Already bought it too :) Pros: Strong plot, excellent characters I immediately got attached to - the heroine was awesome, strong, funny, and cute!!!- , and just enough conservative romance to make the reader happy. I LOVE the plains and this book talks a lot about ranch life and culture. Personally, I am really biased with this novel because 1.) I am a Mormon 2.) my relatives (1/2) came from homestead situations and reading this book literally took me to their 'homes' and lived with people that experienced what they did. Breathtaking! P.S. There are some sad parts. Cons: I d... moreo not agree with the way the author had the story's ending "placed" and I wish there was a little bit more romance, but that would be like asking to sugar up an already tasty cupcake. :) Great book!
review 2: Lame! Lame! Lame! I can't believe I finished it and waisted the time to do it! Julia is not a very good and interesting character. She is so wimpy and unrealistic and would not be able to withstand what she does in the book. The love story is so unrealistic to the period! It was like a modern day pioneer story. I feel like the author should have spent more time on this and given it more detail. It was a good idea but needed a lot of work! If I could go back in time I would and not read this book. less
