review 1: Lots of fun in this one: A cat who doesn't eat mice but craves cheese. An inn with a reputation for the best cheese. A mouse who can read and write. A mean cat who is eager to eat all the mice in the inn. A raven recovering from cat-imposed injuries who desperately needs to get back to the White Tower. A writer, Charles Dickens, who observes all the goings-on at the inn. A queen who comes in search of her missing raven. Lots of fun. I also enjoyed Moser's sketches of the animals.
review 2: "He was the best of Toms. He was the worst of Toms."Skilley, a cat who just wants a home, takes up residence in a London Cheshire Cheese Shop. His only responsibility is to catch the mice that are always hanging around. Then he meets Pip. A mouse that knows Skilley's little s
... moreecret and they come to an agreement: Skilley will protect the mice and Pip and his crew will bring Skilley what he really wants - the Cheshire cheese. The mice stay hidden when humans are around - especially since there is a vengeful cook and an angry barmaid. Everything seems to be going well. Enter Punch: another cat who wants Skilley's cushy job. Set in Victorian London, Charles Dickens even frequents the Cheese Shop. There are a lot of references and parallels to Dickens work, which makes this such a fun read. less

For the student who loved Kate DiCamillo's Tale of Desperaux, hand them this charmer.
