review 1: While there were colorful descriptions of costumes, there wasn't much historical accuracy and in some ways, the book seemed to be too comedic. Like turning the whole Protestant Reformation and the rise of Anne Boleyn into some sort of clique throwdown which each side trying to foolishly and childishly one up each other. Henry hated sickness, but I have never heard of him wearin a pouch of spiders around his neck. Why does he and Mary Tudor(his daughter) have blonde hair?
review 2: This novel chronicles Henry VIII's third wife, Jane Seymour through her early years with Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, and finally as Henry's wife. I have to say, it isn't very powerful to read a story where you already know the ending. I was curious about Jane Seymour, since all
... more I really knew about her was that she was the mother of Edward, but this novel didn't really change what I thought about her. My opinion is still "meh..." I didn't really feel like a lot was added to the history to make this really good historical fiction. It was a pretty quick read. less
