review 1: Katie was known to be shallow, attention-seeking and frivolous, but all that changes when a little bundle of joy is dropped on her doorstep. Besides the new responsibility of child-rearing, she is also trying to uncover the mother's identity, start the interior design for her brother's hotels and re-kindle an old romance, AND keep it all a secret. Another adorable addition to the Not Quite series. This is not a simple love story, because we witness Katie dealing with so much more than just your standard romance. She is dealing with the love between a man and a woman as well as that between a woman and a child as well as her love for her own mother. She is growing up and changing and coming to terms with so many big issues that have hampered her life and driven her in the w... morerong directions. She is discovering her strengths, her weaknesses and watching her talents evolve. AND, my reason for reading these books, she gets her HEA.
review 2: Not Quite Mine is book two in the Not Quite series by Catherine Bybee. Jack, Dean, Tom and Mike have been best friends for a long time. They have been there for each other through breakups with girls to romances and now to Jack’s wedding to Jesse. They all come from money but they all work very hard for their money. Dean works for the Morrison Empire and for Jack specifically. While Morrison Hotels are known for their upscale beauty and cost, Jack is determined to build a series of hotels with the same class but with the style and cost geared to the working man. Dean is in charge of the building of the first hotel in this new chain. What he doesn’t expect is the last thing Jack told him before leaving on his honeymoon. That is that his sister, Katie, is going to be the decorator for the hotel. Dean is in shock over this but decides to turn it to his favor and try to get Katie to love him again as he never stopped loving her. Katherine Morrison, Katie, has been known for her partying and has had her picture in all of the tabloids. Of course, she hasn’t had half the fun they say she had; but she isn’t telling her brother or father that. Her Father dotes on her and has since her mother left them. Her brother Jack has set himself up as her keeper. With him on his honeymoon, he puts Dean in his place. He has no idea that Dean and Katie had been a couple but broke up after she had a miscarriage and was told she would never carry another baby to term. With this news, Katie broke up with Dean as she knew he wanted a big family. She didn’t tell Dean this. Now she has her first job decorating Jack’s hotels but she has to work with Dean. Will that be awkward or will it work out? The night of Jack’s wedding, Katherine was at her hotel with Monica, Jesse’s sister, when a knock came at the door. When she got there, there was no one in sight and there was a baby on the doorstep. The note in the basket said the mother was giving her to Katie since she knew Katie would be a good mother but couldn’t have children of her own. If things worked out like she thought they would, the child’s father would fall in love with Katie and they would be a loving family. Instead of calling the police, Katie decides to keep the baby but secretly until her private investigator could locate the birth mother and she could talk to her and ask her why. This is complicated as Katie is expected to live at the Morrison Hotel in town but she can’t keep a baby there. Monica offers her Jesse’s room at her apartment so Katie sets out on a subterfuge and goes between work, the hotel, and Monica’s apartment. Since Savannah is only about two weeks old at the start, it presents quite a challenge for Katie. Can she keep Savannah under wraps until the private investigator does his job? Can she especially keep the news from Dean who will surely tell her brother? less
