review 1: Ms Grant has guts to start by depicting her heroine enjoying herself with a man other than the hero. There are lots of stories where the heroine is a courtesan, but usually she is portrait as being forced into that kind of life and that there is no physical satisfaction for her. That is a no-no, physical satisfaction is only obtained through the hero. Not so in this story. In Lydia we have a heroine who is her own saviour. A woman who is capable of taking the cards life deals her and plays them to her best ability. A woman who recognises her own mistakes, acknowledges them, picks up her skirts and continues.Like in her first book, Ms Grant gives her characters time to know each other, that is what their relationship, romance is based on, not on the physical attraction, i... moret is a meeting of the soul and heart more than the body alone.
review 2: Loved the book. The yearning between hero and heroine was palpable. The hero really tried to elevate and keep the heroine from falling into the gutter and the angst in this book reminds me sharply of Sherry Thomas. It appears this book is part of the Blackshear series and I would not be opposed to reading the rest of the series. The sex doesn't happen until further in the book and the wait was worth it. less

I somehow drifted to Snoozeville on page 32. Incredibly tedious.
