review 1: I listen to the audio version of this book. I sometimes had difficulty distinguishing between the different characters' voices, even Nick and Kate, the H/H. Aside from that, I thought the conflict, while very real for the tim period, was weak. Kate didn't want to marry Nick because she waned/felt she needed to make an excellent match. Nick was not a Lord and had a brother who had a big scandal. The resolution was too simple of a fix. I have enjoyed the Cecilia Grant's books in the past, but this one did not do it for me.
review 2: A surprisingly intimate, interior-musings sort of book. I preferred the plots and conflicts in Grant's previous two Blackshear family books to this one, but I still love her high-quality writing. There are no giant, sweeping, expl... moreosive events in this book, just the slow unraveling of society's expectations when two people are intent upon the other person's happiness. Gentle and wisely revelatory in ways I didn't expect from Grant, but well worth a read. less
