review 1: By examining the book "This is Not Forgiveness", I found that I would strongly recommend it to other readers who are considering a good novel that displays human elements of mystery and unrequited love. This book it is about a young boy named Jamie who is in love. He is in love with a girl named Caro that nobody quite seemed to like and was said to not be a good person, but Jamie didn't care. Jamie and Caro started dating and as the relationship went on, Jamie found things that he didn't know about her. He doesn't know why she sometimes disappears, why there are cuts on her wrists, why she talks about revolution and taking actions, and why there is talk of her past relationships. Jamie is always confused when she simply disappears. "I can't figure out where I am with her. ... moreI never know exactly where we are going, or what we're going to do,or even if I am going to see her. She never calls or texts me. She is either there. Or not there" (165). Jamie also has an older brother named Rob who just got back from Afghanistan and whose leg was smashed into bits from war. When Caro and Rob meet, they make a plan to attack the school together. In the end, Jamie realizes the “funny thing is, I think Caro might say something now, like don’t go to school, even at the risk of giving it away, just to save me, but she doesn’t. I get a cold feeling, like my insides are congealing. She cares more about this, about whatever they are planning, Than she does about me” (267). Jamie thought that the girl of his dreams finally wanted him, but then he realizes that she cared more about the plan to attack the school more than she cared about him. This book was a really great book to read and I suggest it to a person who might gain a different perspective on relationships, and the fragile trust that must be delicately balanced with the people you love.
review 2: Rees always writes atmospheric reads with compelling characters, and this modern day story resonates after the final page. Jaime is infatuated with punk anarchist Caro, who in turn uses Jaime to ensnare Jaime's older brother, Rob, a damaged Afghanistan vet in some kind of terrorist plot. The voices are distinct, although not everyone is likable, which I think will interfere with the popularity in my library. less

Hard to finish. I really like Celia Rees, but this was not gripping at all.
