review 1: This was a pretty excellent book. It was very exciting and managed to keep the tension going even through some of the slower parts. I really enjoyed this book because by the end, Sam Gaddis is not some super spy like Jason Bourne, he is just a college professor caught up in extraordinary circumstances. It isn't skill that keeps him alive but just dumb luck and that made the story that much more plausible. I highly recommend this story to any spy novel enthusiasts or if you're in the market for a fun, fast paced thriller.
review 2: Ah yes, lovely premise, that there was a sixth man / spy amongst the famed Cambridge 5. This was a bit more of a caper than 'A Foreign Country' and more humorous to the end. Take a Russian-speaking, cordurouy -wearing, handsome (of
... morecourse) English academic with an overdraft, an ego and an ex-wife in need of funds. Give him a couple of box files and leads on a high level cover-up job (that MI6 eh?), promise him a book deal and toss in a couple of good-looking women and foreign locations and you have a very engaging read. Looking forward to the next one. less

A traditional spy novel in the style of John LeCarre.
