review 1: The first book I read in Christine Feehan's Leopard Series, actually third in it per the bibliography, BURNING WILD is an intricate tale of a leopard shifter who is aware of his surroundings from before birth. Jake fights to survive extremely abusive, but rich, parents who constantly try to manipulate all around him. His only good influence growing up is his namesake and great-grandfather who eventually leave Jake the means to thrive, surpass and ultimately defeat his parents. Jake is flawed but extremely determined. Emma has a background that remains hidden for much of the book, but she is pregnant and injured in a wreck when Jake saves her and decides to keep her, for what he thinks are very practical reasons. Since he's never known love, he really can't recognize i... moret. There's a great supporting cast and action. As an aside, and as a reader, I LOVED the description of Jake's library and how you can learn so much by yourself. There is a HEA after lots of fighting, angst and recognition of the role love can have in your life. I've read this multiple times and still enjoy it.
review 2: I loved this book. Admittedly I was at times irritated by how possessive Jake could be, but I was nearly in tears at the start of the story so I could understand why he behaved as he did (this will hopefully make more sense once you've actually read the book). The plot was punchy and I was pretty much gripped after the first chapter. It strongly reminded me of Lora Leigh's Breeds series, so much so that occasionally I was expecting those characters to appear! Regardless, I could not put the book down and I'd like to read the rest in the series. less
