review 1: These books are not turning out the way I thought and I wanted. They were supposed to be leopard men solving problems in the jungle, while finding their lost mates. Now it’s moved to Texas and has become a dom/sub type of hard core sex. It just reeks of entrapment, I had hard time finishing it. I only did because I wanted to see how Emma gets back at him. And because I like Drake. This reminds me more of a bad version of the ‘Shades of Grey’ series, which is a good series, but this was not supposed to be like that. At least in ‘Shades’ he explained things to her and he got her permission before taking over her life. And he stopped when she said the safe word and he guided her through the hard stuff, stayed within her limits. Jake is just a cold, ma... morenipulative monster. The leopard nature just makes it 100x worse. He’s dominated her, taken over her life, bullies her, physically hurts her and then forces her to say she likes and wants it. A person would say anything when somebodies raping and/or abusing them to get them to stop. Doesn’t mean it’s true. I’m glad Emma at least has Drake to help control him, and help her. She’s a wonderful person, but needs to get a stronger backbone, so Jake can’t suffocate her so much. I know she hopes to make him a better person through love, but I still want her leopard to give him what he deserves in return. Okay all that was written before I finished and Jake does come around to being a (sort of) good guy, but I still don’t forgive for before. That all is part of the reason why Emma’s so upset and distrustful when her leopard finally comes out. Why she has a hard time coping with it and what it made her do. Quick thoughts: 1)I thought Conner said he’d go with Drake to the hospital, so why after the helicopter left was he here to help rescue Kyle? 2)I’m glad Drake is going to be okay. He deserves to be whole again. Fave scenes (notice the first three don’t have Jake in them): the movie date, the horse stampede, the dress shopping trip and the fight during the storm.
review 2: This is the first book I've read about shape shifters and the first I've read of the Leopard People Series. it's also the very first novel I've read from Christine Feehan as well. Since I'm very limited in my ventures into paranormal, I don't have much to offer in term of reviews. What I can say, however, is that this novel became an instant addiction. I couldn't put it down. Readers before me may noticed that the book doesn't focus on romance and more on the maturing of the hero. Before, this would be a turn off for me because if i'm picking up a romance, romance is what I want. Don't you agree? But boy, this one blown me away and sucked me in from the very first page. The hero was a leopard shifter who had suffered abuse the moment he was born. Instead of turning weak, he used his cunning wits and intelligence to overcome it, despite becoming very cynical and jaded in his view of the world. I love growing with him as his character developed from a calculating, manipulative man to a loving father and lover. The heroine herself was quite surprising to me. Although she appears to be weak and fragile at the first, as the story progress and her character developed, you'll realized that has more courage and strength hidden all along. And it shows most when something or someone threatens her love ones. I especially love that despite all the intimidation and sometimes fear she has of hero, she'd never let herself become a victim. She always have a good head on her shoulders and never let emotion rules out her judgement. I respect that very much. There were moments when I thought she would do something stupid and silly but she always surprised me.After reading this, I would definitely recommend this to my friends. However, if you're looking for romance, this may not be for you. yes, there's romance but it's mainly pushed aside , though in a good way. Instead you'll get to see how each character grows and mature and face the obstacles ahead of them. It's different from most of my reads, but a refreshing one nonetheless. The only complains I have of this novel so far is that I wish we have more interactions between the hero and his children as well as some more scenes of their children. Oh, and I wish they would have let us in a little on the background of the heroine because I'm just plain stumped that she KNEW the whole time (for you readers, you should know what I'm talking about). lol less
