review 1: This book is about a girl named Sara who goes on a business trip with her dad to Turkey who finds a magic carpet and the obstacles she faces because she has found the carpet. While in Turkey she meets Amesh a kind Turkish boy who gets mixed up with her problems. When she finds the carpet Sara and Amesh go for a ride and it takes them to the Island of the Dijn. I gave this book three out of five stars because I disliked how slow the beginning of the story was and that the book left you with a lot of unanswered questions and I liked this book because it was very interesting I never knew what was going to happen next and it was nothing like I had read before. I think the author's purpose of writing this story is to let people know you are stronger than you think you are and e... moreverything is not what it seems.
review 2: As a longtime Christopher Pike fan I must say this is the only time I've been let down by his work. Although the author's weaving of the tale itself is captivating, the characters never become believable enough for me to be concerned with their plight. Although the imagery is wonderful (I felt as though I were curling up on the carpet myself, mystified with its beauty, for instance) the narrative fails to detail segments of the story that should've been given more attention (the complete exchange with the first dijinn, for example). Foreshadowing was also deficit. Because there's not enough information to make one say, "Oh, that's why..." or "Duh, I should've realized..." the plot twists lack authenticity. I kept hoping Mr. Pike would turn it around before the end of the story and tidy it all up (as he's had quite the knack for doing historically) but instead the ending was abrupt and dismissive. less

Pike failed me with this one and should stick to writing memorable books like ”Remember Me”.

A good book; I wish there had been a sequel. The ending read like there would be a sequel.
