review 1: Another enjoyable read from Colin Cotterill. Having read many Dr Siri books plus Killed at the Whim of a Hat and The Axe Factor featuring Jimm Juror I know to expect a witty book full of comic characters. But you also get to know more about a country, Thailand in this case, than you'll notice on a holiday. In particular the way the Burmese immigrants are treated so badly which doesn't bother the average Thai in the slightest. So read this book for the laughs but do take note of the serious background
review 2: Forget that giant list of murder mysteries that uses titles that are merely clever plays on words--puns on death (or cookery or some other new genre of mystery). This is a book which announces its story and names the book so you can remember the plot from
... more that title. Set in modern Thailand is the family of a transgender daughter, slowly dementing mother, ex-police grandfather, and our heroine, a former crimes reporter. Finding a head on the beach starts the story with loads of humor and interesting points of references to modern culture which somehow translate from Thailand to American circumstances. A fun read. less
