review 1: This heartbreaking edition to the series starts off with Hiccup in exile with his 3 favorite dragons. Old foes return, friends and family have been lost, and new adventures ensue when Cowell reports Hiccup must face the consequences of previous actions. This book more than ever was sad and moving and I fear we are ever getting closer to a world where dragons are no longer an integral part of Hiccup's story. It reminds me a little of Harry Potter series when you return to Hogwarts and everything has changed, here in the Wilderwest nothing seems the same, villages have been burned, people are enslaved and Alvin now reigns as king. The highlights are the book include a little girl dressed as a bear, fishleg's history revealed and Camicazi always prepared with escape plans... more and lots of weapons. No matter how dark it gets though Cowell always has a way to infuse humor into the storyline. I cannot believe I have only one book to go!
review 2: The ghosts of the Deadly Shadow, Valhallarama's nonstop quests, Fishleg's lobster claw necklace, and the Dragon Jewel: A FLABBERGASTING ADVENTURE.I cannot say much about this book, but yeah, it broke my heart once again. For Freya's skin, why did Hiccup need to become a hero the hard way? From his own mother, Valhallarama, hunting him down; to making his way to Prison Darkheart and Amber Slaveland; up his path to discovering that Fishleg's might be dead; and then he juiced off the great past of the 3-headed Deadly Shadow Dragon namely Innocence, Arrogance and Patience; until he finally discovered and got a fistful grab of the Dragon Jewel; and lastly how his heart melted by being saved by his very own mumu, Valhallarama ---- the whole dragon ride was tiring and really exasperating. And yeah, see how Alvin triumphed once again. NOT.MY FAVE AGAIIIN. IM OFF TO THE LAST BOOK.VAIR DEPRESSING. less
