The Superior Spider-Man (Marvel NOW!)
review 1: It's difficult to do anything new with a series that has been running for 700 issues but Dan Slott manages it. It's not *really* new, e.g. even when the new Superior Spider-Man shows what a changed character he is by delivering a 'brutal beating' to his enemies the artwork only shows them getting lightly bruised. This still isn't the Authority. But it's about the best you can hope for with a long running money maker series.
review 2: Interesting concept with a pretty boring execution. Villain Doc Ock's mind takes over Spider-Man's body, to become the "superior spider-man." Not really explored in any radical ways. Doc Ock inherits Parker's "good conscience" to prevent him from doing anything really ballsy. The ghost of Peter Parker is still around to say "ugh
... more!" in response to everything Doc does.. on every page. Feels trite for a concept so different for Marvel. less
