Peter and the Starcatchers
review 1: It was not at all what I was expecting. "Bridge to Neverland" is kind of a reboot to the Peter & The Starcatchers series but it takes place in current time. The characters in "Bridge" even use the original series as reference points while they're on their adventure. Barry and Pearson work very well together, as always, but this one doesn't quite have the same magic that the original series held.
review 2: This is the latest in the Dave Barry/Ridley Pearson Peter Pan prequel series of books, following the Peter and the Starcatchers books. The series started off really strongly; I loved Peter and the Starcatchers; but it has gone downhill rather sharply. In The Bridge to Never Land, the reader follows Sarah and Aidan Cooper, modern teenagers, on their quest
... moreto defeat Ombre. While on a family vacation in England, Sarah and Aidan follow clues to find a box of Star Stuff. However, when they get the Star Stuff back to their home in Pennsylvania they find Ombre following them. They team up with a descendant of Molly Astor to find a bridge back to Never Land. The plot is so full of improbabilities as to be ridiculous. For instance, Albert Einstein as the inventor of a magical teleporter between Orlando, Florida and Never Land? I also wasn't happy with the ending; Ombre isn't so much defeated as put aside for later. And the teens, Sarah and Aidan, didn't experience a single repercussion after running away with an unknown adult to Florida, and returning a week later with a young boy (Peter Pan) who's history they cannot explain? I stand by my recommendation of Peter and the Starcatchers, but don't bother with the rest of the series. less

I have mixed feelings on this book. I wonder if I would have liked it better if I hadn't read the previous Peter and the Starcatchers books. This book is set up as a treasure hunt, versus the previous books of keeping the star stuff protected. It does have its suspenseful moments. However, in comparison to the rest of the series, it is very different. I suspect that it was ghost written by a completely different author. It doesn't reflect the nature of the recurring characters as set up in the previous books at all, not to mention we don't even see these characters until the last quarter of the book. The last third of the book feels like a giant ad for Disney World. If you've read the first four Peter and the Starcatchers books, I would skip this one. On the other hand, I suspect my eight-year-old son will really enjoy it.Update: After just having read the first "Kingdom Keeper's" book by Ridley Pearson, I am pretty sure that he authored this last "Peter and the Starcatchers" by himself, thus explaining the completely different tone of the book from the first four.

This book was so good and I can only hope that they will make another due to the ending on this where *SPOILER* Peter comes back and feels Ombra growing stronger. They can't just leave a series off like that. I also would like to know what happened to Peter and Wendy because at the end of Peter and the Sword of Mercy, Wendy and her brothers heard a tapping on the window which I took to be Peter coming back, but then again we may not know:( But all in all this book was fantastic and took a whole new perspective on his books:)
