Star Trek: Typhon Pact
review 1: The book itself had a very interesting main plot centred around the Enterprise and the Typhon Pact powers. The main reason why this did not receive 4 stars is due to some sections in the book which felt just like "ballast", words to fill the pages, with no real impact to the main plot and advancing the story in no particular way.In addition to this, if you have already read all the Typhon Pact books thus far, be prepared for a summary of the events that have led to this. The good thing about this is that you receive the information from the other point of view (of the Typhon Pact races/agents involved), which makes the content somewhat new and interesting. The last few pages of the book, however, seem to be a shitstorm of epic proportions and I am looking forward to see how... more it is resolved in the next book in the series.
review 2: NOOOOOOOOOOOO! That final sentence! That final paragraph! This is definitely the best of the Typhon Pact series so far, hands down. Though each of the individual installments were good, they all stood mostly alone as stories that were loosely tied together within the framework of the Typhon Pact metastory. But here, everything comes together, and it builds slowly to the inevitable, explosive final moments. All the previous TP books are touched on, and they all contribute in some way to the disastrous conclusion of the "cold war footing" on which the Khitomer Allies and the Pact had been standing. As always, it's great to see this interesting mix of characters from different corners of the franchise, and it was particularly surprising when Nerys (presumable aided by the Prophets) flashed to the "Far Beyond the Stars" reality in the midst of crisis. I don't want to say too much, because if you're on Goodreads and you're reading the Typhon Pact series, you wouldn't want the events of this installment ruined for you. Just know that this is the moment in the series you've been waiting for. less
