Curse Keepers
review 1: I got this from NetGalley to review. This one starts off wonderfully--a mystery, a young woman, a good looking young man. I really enjoyed the basic idea of this speculative/urban fantasy, however, it quickly devolved into a rather smutty story that really boiled down to "I have to sleep with him, he completes me, and life is horrible without him." And really, do we need another story like that? Swank could have really made this one shine, but she took it too far with the over-sexualized vein and not enough with the interesting plot line. Those fans of sexually-charged romances (aka, Twilight) will probably enjoy this one. For those of us wanting more substance than sex, I'd advise you skip it.
review 2: This was a 2.5 star book, but irritating enough to be
... more more 2 stars than 3. And it was *really* irritating, with cheesy dialogue, laughable sex scenes, and lots of Sookie Stackhouse-style dilemmas about work, clothes, make-up and laundry. Ellie was pathetic and felt very unreal, and I just didn't like Collin. Not a nice guy at all. The basic idea was good, but I skimmed the last 50 pages or so because I was getting very bored with the way the book was written, and I won't be bothering with the rest of the series. less
