review 1: This is my second Di Morrissey this week. While I quite enjoyed the first, The Road Back, I'm not sure how I feel about this one. There seemed to be a lot of coincidence played out with no real suitable explanation. While the reader can make the connections between the characters the main character did not, not because she was silly but because she wasn't looking for these connections. I found that frustrating. I admire the determination and pluck she displays but the story lacked the evidentiary links. And I agree, her husband was too good to be true.
review 2: I hated this novel. I was actually shocked about how badly this was written. I have never read a Di Morrissey book and when it was our next book in bookclub I thought I would put my book snobbery aside ... moreand read one of Australia's most famous modern authors. I wish I hadn't. The language was so wooden and lacklusture I skimmed through the last half of the book just so I could start my next novel in my "to read" pile. less
