review 1: The eighth book in the Outlander series; Claire and Jamie are now in 1776 New England, and the tide of the Revolutionary War is about to change. The beginning of the book dragged for me, but not enough to give up...this is about Claire and Jamie, after all. I do appreciate the authors meticulous attention to history and historical facts. I also get a kick out of characters that I have been following for 7 (very large) books meeting people like George Washington and Benidict Arnold....and I'm sure, knowing the authors attention to detail, that these people are pretty accurately portrayed. The thing I liked best about this book, though, is we are back with the two main characters. Others do come and go throughout the book, but this one is about Claire and Jamie, who I sort o... moref feel are part of my family. Not her best book, but a very good read.
review 2: I now have read them all and in a very short time. I enjoyed every one of them. Despite Echo being a struggle for the first 70% (I gave it 3 stars) it does lead you into this one which I did not find slow at all. So much history from a social aspect to war to medical. Also the big ether joke at the end. I read far too much history as a matter of course and I thank Diana for moving me to dig deeper into the Revolutionary South and its society. less

Was too disgusted/bored to finish. I think I am done with this series.
