review 1: Earwig the main character likes living in the orphanage where everyone does everything for her. She tries to not get adopted and suceeds until a witch comes in and adopts her. The witch expects her to do all her own work. This book is filled with fun and interesting characters and antics. This book would appeal to those interested in fantasy and humor and is intended for ages 10 and older. I would use this in a lesson where the students created an alternate ending to this fantasy story we read aloud.
review 2: Left on the doorstep of St Morwald's Home for Children as a baby, Earwig loves living there and certainly doesn't want to leave - everyone does exactly what she wants! So when a strange and not very nice couple take her home, to use as a witch's servant,
... moreshe bides her time...she's always wanted to be taught magic. A smart, sharply funny book with a feisty central character, cleverly and quirkily illustrated...an absolute winner for beginner readers. less
