Before The Storm
review 1: I loathed this book. Dreadful, awful characters. Weird and disjointed storyline and character development. Nasty scenes I had to skip over. Sudden bursts of filthy language. When the main heart-throb (a self-proclaimed minister and adulterer) drowns at sea because a whale overturns his boat- I laughed out loud. Seriously- I don't understand how books like these make it past editors and publishers and I'm only admitting to have read this book in order to warn against it. DO NOT read Diane Chamberlain. It will kill off healthy brain cells. One of the reviews called her the southern version of Jodi Piccoult. I did see similarities between them in that they both seem to revel in the darkest and most despicable vagaries of human nature.
review 2: Why in th
... moree world did it take me almost a month to get through this book? I hate giving poor reviews about books, but I literally had to push myself to finish this. Talk about predictability - and that's one of my pet peeves when it comes to a novel. I love when an author takes you in one direction - and you assume how the story will unfold - and then the story takes a tangent into the unknown I hate giving a synopsis about a book what I like to do is delve into why the author wrote the book secrets she left behind is a sequel to before the storm I do it man I did not read before the storm but the author gave enough information in this book to understand the background story. I feel this reading this book the author tried to develop the characters, meaning she provided enough detail to make the reader feel a connection. Keith is a victim to a fire set ablaze by his half sister Maggie though told by Maggie on numerous occasions she did not set the fire she just provided the igniter you can feel the trauma keep this going through dealing with the bands in golfing his body yeah he pushes on because of his mother his rock but like any normal teenager he treats his mother like garbage which he later regrets writing style of the author is commendable but it just doesn't work for me. Instead of having one flowing story you have chapters from the point of view of the main characters. I wish the author would have had some chapters from Jamie's point of view. He was the main character that help the story of my life together but by the time this book took place he was already dead.I honestly do not believe that I will read another one of Ms. Chamberlain's books. I know that this book received higher reviews and although the storyline was interesting, it just could not hold my attention. Cheating /lies /deception - those plots have been overused and this is the case in this book. less
