review 1: This is a story of true friendships, loving marriages, and the inevitable teenager mother-daughter conflict. No one would suspect the trauma that would descend on three families. It is a journey for all as they attempt to redefine who they are. A breakup with a boyfriend, the death of a young father, and the suicide of someone very dear to all in the community starts the unrest and sadness. Would anybody be whole again? Then the secret the midwife had been keeping for 16 years is revealed and rocks their worlds. It's a good story wnith solid characters struggling with real problems.
review 2: This is one of those books that makes a quick, easy read that is high on drama and low on reality. But I was okay with that because the writing itself flowed nicely
... moreand the characters were complex and interesting. I doubt it's a book that I would read again, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading it either. Just be prepared to accept quite a few coincidences and suspend reality a bit. All in all, I enjoyed it. less
