review 1: Dizzying. At first I was like, oh yes, I've been there, but then somewhere it just continued spiraling down. And falling lower and lower and lower. To a point of, "ok I've got it, he's sick with love. anything new?" The nauseating hopelessness kept coming and coming with not even a glint of happiness, much less the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.Still, I love Buzzati. The way he can illustrate thought, running, jumping back and forth, in breathless paces sometimes, downtrodden and hopeless the others. And then, a glass of fresh, ice cold water (perhaps poured on our collective heads) at the final chapters, where Piera makes him face his true self and tells him why he was doomed from start because of himself in the first place and not only because of the indiffere... morence of Laide...That said, could have been shorter in places.
review 2: I don't know if this rating is the right one.I'm giving 3 stars for the writing, and four for the story. It's not hard to read this book, the action is simple and everything is very clear.Although, the story is a little bit complicated. Down there, you realize that love exists for people that in our eyes are ''damned''. The main character falls in love with a girl that makes dirty jobs, and he falls so deeply for her, even thou she is a slut. This made me think about true love. I don't know if their love was a true love but I realized that love must be a part of every person's life, bad or good. less

Rather dodgy translation in Greek made me give it up. Shame as I don't like doing that.

another great find--absolutely gorgeous Italian book, a real 'love affair'!

una Milano innocua, un amore che è più sottomissione che amore.

Terribile. Inutile. Inconcludente.
