review 1: At first, I set my expectations too highly upon this book because I have just finished reading The Rose Petal Beach (it's amazing!). I think this book has let me down a bit but there are still some parts where I teared and my heart ached. Overall I would say this book is decently written. Some characters could have more air time to help make the story flow better. Other than that, I think it also enlightened me about abusive relationships. One thing I would love to read would be Poppy's Dad point of view. It will magnify the story even more and I think I might cry like a baby.
review 2: This was the first book I have read by this author and I was sufficiently impressed to give it four stars although like most books it did have its flaws. However the author did
... morea good job of conveying how victims (especially young ones but often not so young)can continue to be abused and yet not able to walk away from the perversion and manipulation under the disguise of love. I also liked the ending that we got to know that it was the ex-wife that rendered the final blow (as I would guess most readers figured out about mid-way through the book) but that that remained unknown to the girls and the public -- instead of the unrealistic ending of most books that the truth came out in the end and Poppy's name was cleared forever etc. All in all I would recommend this book to others. less
