review 1: I like Gideon Crew, but this story never really grabbed me. Too many last minute rescues and near misses. The authors have done another fine job of building characters you learn to know. Clive Cussler has his Dirk Pitt and Joe Zavala, Preston and Child have Agent P. for their other series of books, and now they want to us root for Gideon Crew. I'm in!I was surprised how many times the authors used the phrase "suddenly".My editor roasted me when she read my manuscript, and I removed that word and others like it. I guess when you're hotshots like Preston and Child, you can throw in as many adverbs as you want. Good lord, I never thought I'd be the grammar police!!!!!!I'll be ready for the third installment of Gideon Crew when he arrives.
review 2: This had some
... moreintriguing ideas: stealing a page from the Book of Kells, a treasure map following The Odyssey into the new world, a search for the key to healing (for Gideon Crew and employer Eli Glinn). The last chapters of Cyclops -- King Kongish karacter--too Hollywood pyrotecnical, let's blow everything up real good. And I didn't like Glinn's behavior, more cardboard than some of the Bond villains. Still I'll probavly forget these complaints and read the next one when it comes out. less

A solid thriller but reminded me perhaps too much of Jurassic Park.

One of the best Gideon Crew novels to date
