review 1: Noir meets Lovecraftian horror in this graphic novel. It's a slow burn that takes place in the 50s with a few men infatuated with one bizarre woman who has quite the pull on them. There are some horrific murders as well as some cult behaviour happening too. Honestly I was hoping for a lot more than I got but the last fourth or so of the volume got interesting very quickly. Interesting enough to make me more curious about the next volume then I was at the middle of the volume. The genre mixing is worth at the very least a look though.
review 2: As I read this volume, I kept thinking, "of COURSE I love this." It's like Hellboy, but more noir and more female-driven... so, you know, basically like Lobster Johnson, but more female-driven. Why has it taken me so long
... more to read this? I love horror (that Lovecraftian kind only comics can really achieve), I love noir, and this is a beautiful hybrid of the two. Plus I'm always down for a dark-haired, blue-eyed dame. :) less
