review 1: I'm calling give-upsies on this graphic novel. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I sat down and read it all in one sitting, but I've only been reading it on my lunch break at work, so, I keep forgetting the story line and getting confused. My main reason for the low stars is that it was a bit more violent then I was expecting, so, that's really on me (it was in the adult graphic novel section). Not a bad read, just not for me.
review 2: Noir meets Lovecraft. It's an interesting idea, and the two work together fairly well, but this book, at least on its own, isn't up to the quality of the Criminal or Incognito books were. ... morech value in this collection, though they do seem to be setting up the second volume. The Lovecraftian elements aren't prominent; they're an undercurrent that propel the other events of the story. For the most part this book would fit into the Criminal universe, with dirty cops, intrepid but troubled reporters, and a dame at the center of it all. A few squid-head moments pop up, and a cult is a key group in the events. But they're more for the unsettling atmosphere, at least here. Still, it does bode well for a more outlandish second volume. less
