review 1: Excellent story. Gripping from beginning to end. This is a novella that is an introduction to a series of novels. In all, the story reminded me of a cross between the movie Contagion and the book Wool. Thematically, it was Wool: people in an already difficult situation that rise above by facing a bleak world the only way they know how--with love and personal sacrifice. From the standpoint of setting, plot, and content, the story is like Contagion--how a government official would deal with a swiftly spreading plague.
review 2: Since I have not yet read Breakers I cannot really relate it yet to the series, but though short as it is, I am excited to read Breakers. Some very basic editing problems such as the use of "to" for "too" which always seem curious to m
... moree because if anyone had read it that would have easily been caught. However, the editing errors were very minimal not distracting from the story at all. This story is about a woman trying to rescue her ex and his adopted daughter from New York where a contagious "flu" has struck. We really have no idea how old this girl is but young. A plague has struck the major cities and is very contagious. We do not get an ending but they are left safe at the end. I was going to give it 4 stars but there just isn't enough of it to warrant 4. Sorry. Still going to read Breakers, and looking forward to it. less
