review 1: Elizabeth Boyle's novels are a fun and engaging read, and I always look forward to her next release. I read this one a bit out of order, so I was familiar with some of the later storylines and the future development of the characters.I enjoyed this book, for the most part. The characters were fun to follow and easy to like. However, some of the ending pages felt forced and unnecessary. In addition, some aspects of the plot seemed underdeveloped, so I found myself backtracking to see if I missed something. Overall, I was engaged in the story, and I very much enjoyed the ending.A last note- I expect to find a couple of errors in a book because no one is perfect, and things are always going to slip by. However, the editorial misses in this book made it difficult to keep rea... moreding at times, since these grammatical and word choice errors really should have been caught.
review 2: This was an intriguing and thrilling story. I was caught up in the suspense it had. Thalia, our heroine, is being matchmaked by her determined sister at an upcoming house party. Along comes Lord Larken, our hero, disguised as Mr. Rider, to spy on Thalia and her cousing Pippin, the suspects of a jail break-out. I really adored the storlyine, the plot. It was refreshing to read in a historical romance, and I was eagerly wanting to know if Thali and Pippin really were the culprits of breaking out Lord Dashwell from jail. The characters are all well-developed and I found myself sympathizinf and coming to love them all! Felicity, with all her nosiness and brashness, was completely lovable and entertaining. Pippin was a swooing romantic in love with a treasonous man. And the hero and heroine had plenty of chemistry with a perfectly developed relationship. But, I admit I cried at the end. Not because it wasn't a happily-ever-after, but because two of my favorite characters had a somber and hopless ending. I'll have to read the other books and hopefully get my happy ending for them there! less
