review 1: This is one of those books where the concept made me worry that it wouldn't work for me, but I shouldn't have worried. Despite how far-fetched the plot, it worked, and magically. Mixing Arthur Rimbaud and a young 1970s graffiti artist was a brainstorm, and yes, this book is radiant. It's exactly the huge similarities and the huge differences in the main characters this makes this come together and add up so well. It's one I'll be thinking about for a while.
review 2: This reminded me a lot of Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly. Hand's writing is gorgeous, as always, though sometimes this felt a lot like name-dropping rather than fully developing a time and setting. ... moren characters -- Rimbaud (whose work I've always loved because of how much the Beats loved him) and Merle -- it was one of the secondary characters that really drew me in. less
