review 1: Just love this series! The descriptions of the pies made at the Shop practically make my mouth water. I love the relationship that Ella Mae has with her Mother and the other family members, especially Reba. Reba just cracks me up - I want to be a part of this tight knit group. The story moves right along while Ella Mae solves the murders and learns more about her "gift". She also learns much more about the other people around her. Looking forward to the 3rd installment.
review 2: The second book in the Charmed Pie Shoppe cozy mystery series delves more deeply into the mythology of the family's magic powers. Ella Mae continues to run her shop, but is being run ragged without sufficient help other than her companion/ family protector, Reba. In a chance encounter ... morewith some local cheesemakers, she not only picks up a catering job for a wedding, but also a new employee. Ella Mae learns about the sacred grove when she has her late arriving "awakening", coming into her full powers. She learns about her ancestors' descent from Morgan Le Fay and a very different version of her role with Merlin and King Arthur. When a prominent member of the magical community dies unexpectedly, she learns that this woman was scheduled to be the next sacred tree, sacrificing her human existence to protect the community. When the next in line also becomes severely ill, Ella Mae and her family become suspicious that dark forces may be in play against them. The story also touches on Ella Mae's romantic challenges and brings to light some interesting developments from her past. This was a fun twist of magic and fantasy on the standard cozy mystery.
