review 1: Absolutely loved this introduction to Ruth Galloway and can't wait to read more! As much as I liked the believable character of Ruth, forensic archaeologist (fortyish and somewhat overweight), what stood out most to me was the setting and the author's stunning descriptions of the landscape and the sea. Setting was very much a character in the book and that always grabs me if done well. I loved the additional information about archaeology, Druids, and all that goes with the mystical history of England and it all fit tightly into the mystery itself. Although I had a strong inkling of who the killer was, the other suspects were creepy enough and had secrets that made several viable candidates. So the suspense kept me turning pages to the end. Highly recommended if you like Br... moreitish mysteries with a strong and likable female lead.
review 2: This was a very good book. I couldn't put it down towards the end. It is about archaeologist Ruth Galloway and inspector Nelson. Nelson calls Ruth in for a consultation on bones for what he thinks is a missing child. Lucy has been missing for ten years. Ruth finds that the bones are actually artifacts, and are very old. Nelson is frustrated. He has received many letters describing where the body is an he just can't figure it out. He has Ruth take a look at them. Then a second child disappears from her back yard, no clues. Ruth and Nelson work together to solve the mystery of the letters and who is behind the kidnappings. less

Couldn't get past the first chapter, honestly. Found the writing just too stilted.

Nice change with a archaeologist as the amatuer sleuth. Will read the others.
