review 1: I adored this book from the very beginning. Disney's Beauty and the beast is possibly one of my most loved movies and so this book had a lot to live up to in my mind, and it succeeded marvelously. I was drawn in not only by Linnet and Piers's characters but all the other surrounding characters in this book as well. Eloisa James does a wonderful job in fleshing out all of her characters and here it showed even more so. Linnet and Piers both evolved very quickly from a beautiful temptress and foul tempered doctor, respectively, into more complex characters both with a very lonely story. The romance worked very well in this book and I found myself gobbling up the pages only to feel sad once this book was done. I am a bit afraid that this book has set the benchmark a bit too h... moreigh for the rest of Mrs Jame's books.
review 2: Just when I was about to finish this book, I suddenly was not in the mood to do so. I don't like how this story went. I find it hard to like the Duke (Piers) because of his sarcastic, hard-to-please personality. I also don't like how Linnet chases him constantly and pushes herself when Piers continues to deny his feelings for her out of his pride and hatred towards his father. Everything is just--- MEH. less
