review 1: Okay I loved this book! I read it in two days! (I don't usually have time for that, but for this book I made and exception) I usually don't like main characters who become obsessed with a boy that treats them so badly (at first) and an author who write stories that hinge on being Twilightesk (only similar in the beginning). However, this indie author,(I believe she is self published) Ragland surprised me. I actually enjoyed Sophie through out the whole book with the exception of one part. Yoke is a new twist on a YA subject that is rapidly replacing the vampire craze. Fallen angels are the new vampires. The very first page guarantees that you must finish this series, even if you do get upset at certain parts. The only part I was unhappy with was how quickly, it see... moremed, that Sophie went from I can't date someone because I grieving, to "your the love of my life" to the intended love interest. I am no longer a teen, so maybe I don't get the epic one-and-only-I-would-die-without-you-OMG-there-is-no-life-after-you relationship. And when the scene went from hanging out as friends then in two second to "I love you" "I love you more" "I love your lips" "I love your eyes" I gagged. But the rest was wicked awesome. Its an epic tell, with an epic plot, with epic character and mythology, and it had an interesting yet gag worthy romance. In the end Ragland created her own angel mythology and distinct tale.CAN'T WAIT FOR BOOK 2!
review 2: E.M. Ragland's debut novel is like a beautiful song you cannot get out of your head. The characters, both human and angelic, are so real their images will imprint your soul and their words will echo over and over in your mind. With one foot firmly planted in each of two totally opposing worlds, Ragland's protagonist, Sophie, struggles to solve the mystery of her life and the meaning of her existence. Ragland's writing is well researched and wonderfully executed. I highly recommend Yoke and anxiously await the next book in the trilogy. less
