review 1: This is a book to be read slowly, which is not my strong suit, but I did it anyway. And you read it slowly so that you may savor it, not because it requires a ton of concentration. It's just a really beautiful story, written in gorgeous prose. It is not an adventure, nor is it funny, and so, it doesn't have a lot of the things I look for in a book. Yet I enjoyed it quite a lot- go figure. You may find something of yourself in each of these women whom the story is about.
review 2: My rating for this book would be 3.5 stars but half stars aren't an option. A group of women are gathered for a victory party for Kate who has survived a three year battle with breast cancer. Her daughter has asked her to go on a 2 week white water rafting trip in Colorado and Kate i
... mores terrified. She shares her fears about the trip with her friends and they tell her she must go. Kate agrees but with one condition - each of the women must also do something out of their comfort zone and Kate gets to choose for them. While there is predictability in each woman's story, there are sweet little surprises and moments of recognition where the reader (in particular, a woman reader between the age of 45 and 55) will go "yes, I've been there" or "I know exactly how you feel". I enjoyed this book - well written with some clever humor and raw emotion as each character navigates the past, present and future of her life. A great Summer read! less
