review 1: This book was...confusing. A SEAL team is assembled that share unusual powers (that are never really explained) to Alaska, where an strange incident has occurred. What the find is a nest of vampires. How and why they got there is not really fleshed out either. But this becomes a standard military team vs vampires book. Lots of action, but no real substance. I love Evan Currie's Odyssey series, but since this is meant to be the start of another, I might stop here at book 1.
review 2: Not really a let down, but not that outstanding either. Though I like the combination of supernatural and military action, I found it hard for me to root for SEAL Team 13 when they are battling an unnamed invincible zombie-like vampire female. Sure the vampire is almost indest
... moreructible but it would be better if she was given a glimpse into her history or origin, or at least a proper name. Even the mother vampire only appeared during the second half of the book. And I feel like this book is too clean and sharp, not as gory or brutal as I thought it could be. But the characters are memorable, my personal favourite is Alexander Norton. The plot probably isn't tight enough, but all are forgiven as I thought it is a great decision for the author to emphasize on the main characters first before plot in the first book. Looking forward for the next book. less
