Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus
review 1: Lt Peter Decker is called out in the middle of the night to the Coyote Ranch home of a wealthy man. He, his wife and their maid were killed and one of their sons was injured. It was obviously an inside job. Two of the security guards were found dead and two more are missing. Did it have something to do with his business or was it closer to home? The other son and the uncle are both shot at as they take the injured brother home. In the meantime, Rina, the Lt wife, is serving on a jury. A blindman approaches her after overhearing 2 men talking about the murder. He wants her to identify the men. At the time he did not know that Rina was the Lt wife. He is a little creepy, showing up at the Lt house, calling Decker at all hours. Twists and turns lead to the conclu... moresion.
review 2: Decker and Rina are back and while I enjoy Faye Kellerman's writing, I found this particular novel lacking. The killing of a wealthy businessman and his wife and the wounding of one son sets off a massive police investigation that carries the Decker team into a complex police procedural heaven. If you enjoy tracking the detailed search for who done it, prepare also to keep track of lots of characters. Almost too many....Kellerman does an excellent job of defining the secondary characters on Decker's team, especially Marge and Oliver, and a blind man who identifies people by their voices. I like the touches of Orthodox Judaism that Kellerman always weaves into the family interplay in this series, yet here the dabbles seemed almost afterthoughts. less

A murder takes place killing Mr and Mrs Kaffey, body guards, a maid and shot but not dead is the youngest son. He gives what details he can but it is not a lot of info. Decker and his crew of detectives set about working the case. Things seem to go nowhere when other events start occurring, such as attempted murder. Who can be doing this? That is a mystery that needs to be solved before someone else is killed. This is my first time to read a novel written by this author but it will not be the last. Her writing is easy to understand and keeps you wanting to keep reading. I enjoyed reading this book.

FINALLY--I have read almost a dozen books by mystery authors that I usually like alot, and have been disappointed every time--I mean, really, batting a thousand--but this one was just as good as the others--or at least shares alot of the characteristics with them--a serene Rina and a firey Decker--they are older and seem older--they also are more of a couple since their children are older. Rina still has an attention to detail in the kitchen that I enjoy. The book is a little too interconnected to be entirely believable--but very good none the less.

Pretty typical for the series. Better than the last one.
